Hello,

I am looking for a miniture or toy schnauzer in perferably southern california. I am intrested in a pet quality puppy or to resuce an older dog. If it is a rescue it needs to be able to be around a small child a few days a month.

I started looking for a puppy to buy after falling in love with the breed ( I have some out of state friends that have them). After looking I was surprised at the cost of them out here the least expensive one was $400.00 . I was also looking for a white one and found several out of state for as low as $100.00 but I just could not ship a puppy for me its just not an option.

I hope I do not get blasted in here by thinking that $400.00 is alot of money and please do not get me wrong I would be willing to pay that if I had the spare cash to use. I am able to afford to care for a dog financialy and also take care of Vet bills. I have a vet that has payment plans and she is very good.

With that said I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions for me or information on puppies for adoption. I am willing to drive to most parts of California, Las Vegas Area and possibly even Western Arizona to meet and possibly adopt a puppy.

Thanks,

Lisa

Hello Lisa,

If it is a rescue you are interested in than my suggestion would be to contact as many local human society's as you can and get your name onto a waiting list so that they contact you once one becomes available.? Keep in mind that when you choose a rescue most often you will not know the background on the dog and therefore take your chances as far as being able to trust them around a small child.? Schnauzers are rarely aggressive but when adopting a rescue you just don't know their background.? Contact human society's as far from home as you are willing to drive.

In Southern California miniature schnauzer puppies can range anywhere from $150 to $1,500.? The pricing depends upon the breeder, or backyard breeder, and whether they are pet quality or show quality.? In most cases you can find a pet quality puppy ranging in price from $150 to $1,000.? Here the price will also vary dependent upon whether or not the puppy is AKC registerable.? Of course you would still need to do due diligence in asking all of the right questions about the puppy, the parents, etc.? Keep in mind that you get what you pay for so try to find out as much about a puppy and its background as you can.

One of the things that is very important to us when placing our puppies in new home is whether or not the adopter is financially capable of taking care of the puppy.? Many things can happen that could cost a lot of money such as accidents resulting in broken bones, getting sick from eating something that is harmful or life threatening, etc.?

You should also try to find a puppy on sites such as the www.pennysaverusa.com, freeclassifieds.com, livedeal.com, etc.? We wish you luck in your search and please feel free to contact us again with any other questions that you might have.

Emmett - Thank you for your input. I appreciate it.

Just to clarify I understand about "you get what you pay for" and in a month I will have the "SPARE" cash. I just returned from an unexpected trip to visit a dying friend and at last minute that cost a lot more then I had expected.

I was looking to get a puppy in the very near future but I would rather wait and get what I pay for. We are financially capable of taking care of a puppy or a dog. I guess I just did not realize how expensive this particular breed is. I have purchased and raised 2 English Springer Spaniels in my past, I was a Dog Groomer for several years and I had a good friend that was a breeder and groom shop owner so I always got great deals on AKC puppies from her.

Please keep me posted as to new litters that you may have. I would like to find a white one either sex and I will be filling out your Master Match form.

Thank You,

Lisa
