My mini male is 1.7 years old, was fixed at 9 months old. Within the last 4 mths, his beard has broken a lot and seems to barely grow and is really short now.

We have a pup, we suspect she may have broken it by pulling on it but other than that, it was nice at XMAS then now it looks so skimpy. But what worries me is will my mini's beard stop growing or have difficulty since being neutered? I think a breeder told me that, ever hear of that?

I have a female mini who is 7 mths old now, I am afraid if I get her fixed too her beard will do the same thing? Any thoughts, I would appreciate it. I feel terrible since i have trimmed their beards not realizing they might not grow back or take forever.

Hello,

Not to worry!? We have been breeding for many years and I assure that neutering or spading does not have an effect on the miniature schnauzers ability to grow a beard. When you cut back a miniature schnauzers beard it definitely takes time to grow back, but it will grow back.

I can also tell you that puppies love to pull on the facial hair of adults and this will cause the adults beard to thin out or appear to be broken.? You did nothing wrong in cutting back your males beard, sometimes it can be necessary when the hair is matted.? With time your males beard will return to it's normal look.? Don't worry about having your female spade as this will not cause her beard to stop growing.

Take care,

Emmett

Thank you so much for your reply. I appreciate it, I feel better now. Yes, when my male was a baby, he used to smush his food down and get very knotty so I did have to occasionally cut out a tangle here and there. And I have trimmed their beards when they seemed way too overgrown for us, so I was very worried and feeling really guilty. But you made me feel better, thanks!
