Hi.  In July of 2005 I purchased a Miniature Schnauzer male for the purpose of breeding him with my female.   Today I started to fill out the AKC registration papers on him and saw at the very bottom that the kennel owners have blocked him from being bred and I can only get a limited registration on him.  I was not informed of this when I talked with her on the phone.  We talked in length about my female and that I was looking for a male to go with her so she knew that I was looking to breed.  Is there anything I can do about this?

Hello Darajanan,

Sorry to hear about the miscommunication with this breeder. ?Unless something has changed with AKC policy regarding changes to registration from limited to full, this is not a problem. ?Check with the AKC website to verify their current policy. ?

Just as important, if the breeder is willing, all they need to do is download a change of limited status form from the AKC, complete the change to full registration. sign it and mail you the forms. ?You sign the forms and send them to the AKC along with a $25.00 fee.

If the breeder has made the mistake inadvertently, then you should ask them to pay the fee. ?

This is not a problem unless the breeder is unwilling to have the registration changed. ?If they agree to do this for you, ?you will need to send in your current registration papers as is. ?The breeder can not make the changes to the registration until you have registered the puppy as limited first.

If the breeder is unwilling to make the change for what ever reason then you really have no recourse short of taking them to small claims court. ?Winning in small claims will be dependent upon having supporting information to prove your case against the breeder.

Good luck, ?

Emmett
