Removing hairs down in the ear canal.

The hardest thing about removing these hairs is the feeling that you are going to hurt the dog.  Grab the right hairs and they will not feel it.

Take a pair of needle nose pliers and grab the hairs that are growing from way down in the ear canal.   If you can see where the hair is attached, then these most likely are not the hairs in question.

Once you have a firm grip on the hairs just pull straight up and out of the ear canal.  You can do this in one quick motion.  This will not hurt the dog.

It would appear that the roots of the hair have little to no nerve sensitivity.  When these hairs are allowed to grow for an extended period of time they will be matted together and covered with ear wax.   Same removal procedure.

My mini had fine feather fur and natural ears. I think this helped her acquire an ear canal infection. She never had a problem before. But one day (at 4 years old) she started shaking her head alot and scratching at her one ear. I looked inside and found a strange odor and some hair with thick, gunky stuff on it. The vet said her ears needed better plucking at each groom. She was placed on antibiotic ear drops for two weeks. It seems like the problem started after a long session in the shower with me to bath her. The inside of her ears probably never dried completely??
