Janelle,

I'm writing to you is because of Fiorello's coat. It is beautiful and silky but I'm really having troubles with mats in a way I have never experienced with Gina.

As I told you before, she has a very easy coat that doesn't require much care. Although being combed and brushed very often, it's been very difficult to keep the mats away from Fiorello's coat and I decided then to write you this e-mail to see if you have any suggestion.

I have tried some conditioners and even a special spray recommended by the groomer but nothing seems to work.

Would you have any special recommendation? Please let me know and once again, thank you very much for such a wonderful dog. He is certainly our very precious jewel.

With my best regards,

Sandro

Hi Sandro!!!!

I was so glad to hear from you! ?I'm glad to hear that Fiorello is doing great, and is a happy boy.

As for the mats, he must have a very fine soft coat. I would love to see some pictures of him!

I used to give away a de-matting comb in the package that you get with the new puppy- but it became to expensive, as these combs are not cheap! ?One that you can get is called the Matbreaker. :veryangry: ?This one I have not used, but I'll bet they are good. In the stores here- they are priced at $18. so I have bought the Dematting combs instead, which run about $7.

Either will work for you if you haven't tried them, I have used them for years. It is actually blades as comb teeth. I just saw it on line for a reasonable price at:
Dematting Comb

I hope this helps! ?Please let me know.
Good to hear from you....send pictures!!

Our fix for fine, feathery coats: Clip the long hair to only about 1 inch at grooming time. Then, several times a week, lay him/her on his/her back and brush out any beginning knots. Using conditioners never helped. Sometimes I'd just cut out the knots...it hardly shows since the other hair covers it. It's very easy to cut too close to the skin and hurt your baby. Then she'll be afraid of this frequently needed ritual. So learn to just snip little pieces at a time, pointing the scissors away from the skin and cutting upwards (again, away from the dog). Don't ever just blindly start cutting, because the skin on the underbelly can easily be mistaken for fur. Our 4 year old mini passed away, but this was one of our rituals. She loved lying on her back and getting fussed on. If your mini has feathery fur, like mine did, I felt like this was an acceptable task. I got used to the shorter hair cuts over time. It just made life easier.:Slider:
